Matt the Cat came to PAWS when he was 9 months old. He’s about six now.
For most of his time in the shelter he avoided human touch and lived happily in an open room with his many cat friends.
About a year ago he had his vet check-up, (not an easy procedure with a basically feral cat) and it was found that he needed special food to treat the start of urinary issues. Unfortunately, this required that he be moved into a cage room.
But wait! There’s a silver lining…
Now that he can’t avoid us, he has discovered that being brushed is just wonderful.
Granted, the brush in question is a vent cleaning brush with a long 30 inch handle that I bought at Home Depot. This allows us to brush him without getting closer than is comfortable for Matt. At first he would hiss and only allow us to stroke his back. We hope to graduate to a short handled brush, and then to actual hands.
I wish someone would adopt this handsome cat and work with him at home. Matt would do best in a quiet environment with other nice cats.
But meanwhile there is an army of volunteers brushing him daily.
